Richard M. Chong

Richard is a Partner of Sycamore Ventures and a Founding Partner of Sycamore GreenStar. Over the past 10 years, Rick has been active in the Silicon Valley venture capital business, as a General Partner of Sycamore Ventures and as a Director of Pac-Link Ventures. He was previously CFO of JL McGregor & Co. LLC, a start-up investment bank focused on investments in China.

Rick was responsible for the investments in two public equity funds for Sycamore from 1997 until 2000. Both funds invested directly into Asian publicly traded equities during the Asian Financial Crisis.

Prior to joining Sycamore, Rick directed the investments of Oncidium Technology Investments, an investment fund dedicated to equity investments of publicly-traded technology firms in the United States. He also served as the U.S. representative for Hantech Venture Capital Corporation (HVCC), a Taiwanese-based investment corporation. Between 1990 and 1993, he served as Managing Director of Acme Components Malaysia, a privately held electronic ferrites company with a manufacturing base in Ipoh, Malaysia. He was Vice President of Strategic Planning for USI Far East, a publicly listed Taiwanese petrochemical manufacturer, between 1983 and 1990 and concurrently served as Vice President of Finance for Luzon Petrochemical.

Rick has served as Chairman of the California Asia Business Council, a member of the Board of Trustees of the World Affairs Council, and a past Treasurer of the Katherine Delmar Burke School in San Francisco. He has guest lectured at Stanford University, University of California Davis and University of San Francisco. Rick received both his M.B.A. and undergraduate degrees from Stanford University. He has been married to Beverly F. Hom Chong for 25 years, and together with her has raised two daughters, Alyssa and Stephanie. They have lived in Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia and San Francisco together.
