The Asia-Pacific Partnership (APP) on Clean Development & Climate will be conducting two regional briefings in California designed to invite participation of industry, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and state and local government in APP projects in India and China and solicit input for future activities and initiatives. 

Objectives

The objectives of the briefings are the following:

·         Inform industry, NGOs and local governments on the objectives, results and remaining challenges of U.S. APP clean development and climate programs in India and China;

·         Identify specific opportunities and mechanisms through which APP can assist California-based industry meet commercial objectives in India and China that are consistent with APP clean development and climate goals;

·         Discuss with California-based local government and NGOs, APP supported mechanisms through which they can share clean development and climate best practices in community-based projects.

Accomplishments, Challenges and Opportunities for Public/Private Participation

U.S. government agency APP Task Force leaders will discuss Task Force accomplishments and
hallenges that present opportunities for U.S. companies, NGOs and local government to share best practices, transfer technology, and invest in clean development projects in APP countries. Select APP Task Force industry representatives will discuss the results of their participation in the APP.

9:30 am           Renewable Energy & Distributed Generation Task Force

Renewable energy technologies, such as hydro (large and small), solar, geothermal, biomass, and wind, can deliver power with virtually zero emissions. Distributed generation (smaller generators that produce power locally apart from centralized grid) also has the potential to significantly reduce emissions and promote greater cost and network efficiencies. The Task Force is working to promote investment in these technologies and address any market and technical impediments that may prohibit their adoption.

10:00 am         Buildings & Appliances Task Force

The APP Building and Appliances Task Force is working on more than 40 activities under 11 project areas to reduce overall building energy consumption, including the energy consumed by appliances, equipment, office and consumer electronics, and lighting. Task Force programs concentrate on sharing information on best practices, market transformation, and investment promotion.

The U.S. Government offers a wide range of business support and facilitation services consistent with APP goals and objectives ranging from market analyses to support for feasibility studies and export credit financing.

Representatives from California based industry are invited to participate in a moderated discussion to explore APP mechanisms and programs supportive of industry's international clean development and climate objectives in India and China

Representatives of California NGOs and local government are invited to brainstorm mechanisms for transferring to India and China, their expertise in developing legislative, regulatory, and community-based programs through APP supported clean development and climate initiatives
