About the Consul General
Consul General Christopher Cheang was appointed as Consul General of Singapore in San Francisco in 2013. Prior to assuming his post in San Francisco, Consul General Cheang was Deputy Chief of Mission and Counsellor in the Singapore Embassy in Moscow from November 2006 to June 2013.
He began his career with the Singapore Foreign Service in July 1980. His first overseas posting was to Bonn, the then capital of the Federal Republic of Germany, from 1983 to 1987. He ran his own business from 1990 to 1991 and subsequently worked in Singapore’s premier English language newspaper, the Straits Times, from March 1991 till September 1992. He rejoined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in September 1992, serving in various capacities in the Ministry’s Headquarters covering Europe, Southeast Asia, Information Management and Research, and International Economics.
Mr. Cheang has extensive experience serving his country in Moscow, having been posted there three different times: 1994 to 1997, 1999 to 2004 and 2006 to 2013.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science (Honours II Upper) in Political Science in 1980 from the then University of Singapore. Mr Cheang speaks fluent German and Russian and is married to Grazyna Elzbieta Krawczyk. They have one daughter.
